It is genuinely a pleasure for me to write this letter of reference for Susan McCart. She is one of the most conscientious professionals with whom I have ever had the pleasure of working.
We began our business relationship over 25 years ago when I was actively involved with a trade show called Lighting World. The International Association of Lighting Designers and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America were sponsors of that trade show and were unhappy with the management company handling the show. Sue McCart was at that time working for AMC (Atlanta Market Center) and they had a trade show division. We first met at a breakfast meeting where she sold the IALD and the IESNA on giving the management contract for a new trade show which became LIGHTFAIR International. Today LIGHTFAIR International has become the largest annual lighting trade show and conference in the world. She is basically responsible for laying all the groundwork for its 24 years of continuous success. The show has now grown to well over 200,000 square feet of exhibits with over 500 exhibitors.
Although Sue is no longer with AMC and LIGHTFAIR, she is now having similar success managing the NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) annual conference including all exhibit sales and the conference program.
What does Sue bring to the table? First, she is extremely intelligent and has the ability to quickly absorb important information about any project. She knew little about lighting 25 years ago, but she knew how to manage a trade show so she learned all she needed to know about lighting in order to effectively communicate with her audience. She is a person who is constantly looking for ways to improve any project she takes on. No matter how successful she is, she is never complacent about the status quo and is always looking for ways to improve her product.
If you are looking for someone who is good in sales, Sue is the best. If you are looking for someone who can put on a trade show or a conference, she’s handles both those perfectly. She is very personable and in my opinion she has always been able to make her business colleagues also her friends. She is extremely well organized and handles every conceivable business practice I can think of. And she is a great manager of people and gets them excited about their jobs so that there is always a very pleasant working environment when you work with Sue.
